To celebrate classic children’s movies, in light of the release of ‘Moana’ at Vue Cinema, we decided to provide a list of the top ten kids movies of all time. For many of us, these films are a symbol of our childhood, so they are no doubt an essential watch.
1. Jungle Book (1967)
‘The Jungle Book’ is an absolute classic and an essential kids movie. Although the live-action remake was well received, the original animated movie is where it’s it at. The songs, the characters – everything about it just brilliant.
2. Toy Story (1999)
Arguably one of the greatest computer animated movies of all time, and Pixar’s best, ‘Toy Story’ is a must-watch before the age of 12. It’s impossible not to adore all the characters and memorable gags and one-liners. If this movie isn’t a part of your childhood, then you seriously missed out big time.
3. The Wizard of Oz (1939)
How can anyone not love being whisked away to the land of Oz? Witnessing the adventures of Dorothy, her dog toto and the friends they meet on the Yellow Brick Road, is simply unmissable.
4. Bambi (1942)
Bambi is a heart-warming tale of a young deer growing up in a forest, and it’s an essential watch for all kids. It’s charming, pleasant and poignant. Need I say more?
5. The Lion King (1994)
‘Lion King’ is often considered the greatest Disney movie of all time, but it’s just an all-round great movie. Simba’s epic tale of self-discovery with the help of his trusted sidekicks, Timone and Pumba, is a story that can’t be missed.
6. Mary Poppins (1964)
‘Mary Poppins’ was a crowning achievement for Walt Disney, and this movie will forever remain in the hearts of those who watched it as a kid. The charming mix of fantasy and comedy works so well, and it’s overall just a great childhood movie.
7. Finding Nemo (2003)
The hilarious and heart-warming adventures Marlin and Dory, who travel across the ocean to find Marlin’s missing son Nemo, is a must-watch. ‘Finding Nemo’ is definitely up there with Pixar’s best.
8. ET (1982)
The bond between young Elliot and the alien in ‘ET’, is a on-screen relationship everyone needs to see. It’s the ultimate kids’ film, a joyous adventure from start to finish, as Elliot tries to help the alien get back home.
9. Pinocchio (1940)
‘Pinocchio’ is an absolutely lovable movie that packs so much fun and heart. The tale of Pinocchio will simply never get old and not only is it a classic Disney movie, but a landmark piece of children’s literature. Also, the movie has one of the most lovable characters in Jiminy Cricket. Easily one of the best characters Disney has ever produced.
10. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971)
Forget the remake, the original ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory’ is what you should be watching. The tale of Charlie Bucket is unlike anything else. And who doesn’t love the Oompa Loompas? Those crazy little guys are so memorable. Also, this movie will definitely make you want to eat a big bar of chocolate.
